In Baghdad today, dozens of people were killed and at least 114 wounded when a suicide car bomber exploded himself and his ordnance outside the headquarters of the Iraqi police. The dead and injured were Iraqis lined up to join the Iraqi police force. Another attack occurred later in the day in Baquba, near Baghdad, when insurgents shot up a police van and killed about 12 people in the vicinity.

The Bush administration is still insisting that elections are going to take place in January, despite concerns about safety and legitimacy if a large number of Iraqis don't show up to vote out of fear of being killed.
