Books for Free

This is a bit off the beaten track for Liberty Street, but when I saw this piece in the Washington Post, I knew it was too good to pass by. There's a bookstore in Baltimore where all the books are free. The bookstore is owned by a man who stopped in Baltimore to get gas on his way to Florida and never got back in the car. He started buying books for teachers after overhearing their conversations in the bar where he worked, about the books they needed that they could not afford. He set up a van, filled the van with the books, and told the teachers to take whatever they wanted. The idea caught fire and turned into the Book Thing, where the books are all donated and free to anyone who wants them.
