Two publishers have agreed to insert language in health textbooks used in Texas that define marriage as a "lifelong union" between a man and a woman. The publishers, Holt, Rinehart & Winston, and Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, succumbed to intense pressure by some members of the Texas Board of Education. One board member dissented, saying that the requested changes amounted to "following a political agenda," but her objections were overruled.
