A Nation Rocked to Sleep

"A Nation Rocked to Sleep" is the title of a poem by an 18-year-old young woman named Carly Sheehan. Her brother Casey died in Iraq on April 4, 2004. I came across this poem by chance, on an antiwar website. Here is the first stanza:

Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
The torrential rains of a mother's weeping will never be done
They call him a hero, you should be glad that he's one, but
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?

You can read the rest of the poem here.
