FORGET OUTLAWING GAY MARRIAGE. Forget passing laws forbidding gays and lesbians to adopt, or allowing gays and lesbians to work as teachers or scout leaders. The poisonous hate-saturated air in this country has gone beyond that. Now, in some parts of the United States, it is a crime to be gay. You don't have to do anything, ask for any equal rights, try to cross any line. If you are gay, you have broken the law.
