YOU KNOW HOW CHEERLEADERS for Bush's war against Iraq always say, "There haven't been any more attacks since 9/11. We're safer now." Of course, they mean in the United States. Here's what it was like last year in the rest of the world:

Last year, a record-breaking 4,969 people were killed in terrorist attacks worldwide, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Terrorism Knowledge Base. Three-quarters of the way into this year, the number, according to the available statistics, is 4,776. Looks like 2005 will be another record-breaker.
