House of Representatives Votes to Extend Patriot Act

Rep. Ric Keller, a Republican from Florida, called renewal of the Patriot Act before December 31 "literally a matter of life and death." If it's extended for one to three months, as a bipartisan panel of senators want to do, so there's time to make sure safeguards for civil liberties are in place, there will be a devastating terrorist attack on January 1 that will make 9/11 look like a 4th of July picnic. That's what Ric Keller believes, it seems.

The fight is not over yet, though, because Sen. Russell Feingold is gonna filibuster, and a coalition of Democratic and moderate Republicans have said they will support him. Fasten your seatbelts.
