THE ASSOCIATED PRESS HAS AN ARTICLE about a two-month-old infant in Pakistan who was operated on to remove two fetuses that had grown inside her while she herself was still a fetus. Doctors don't know yet if the little girl will survive the surgery.

I wonder what advocates of criminalizing abortion think about a case like this. Obviously, fetuses cannot grow to term inside an infant's body, but if the two fetuses inside this newborn baby's body were separate human beings -- as abortion opponents say a fetus inside a grown woman's body is -- then why was the infant's life privileged over the lives of these two other human beings? Did this baby girl somehow become a human being only when she was born? What is the difference between a two-month-old baby and a fetus inside that two-month-old baby? Only location, right?
