Father and Son

Yesterday, I wrote that Uri Grossman, Israeli writer and peace activist David Grossman's son, was killed in action in Lebanon. Today, Juan Cole points to a full-length piece in Haaretz about Uri Grossman's death, and his father's public calls for reconciliation with Palestinians and a ceasefire in the war with Lebanon.

Prof. Cole writes briefly but poignantly about both Grossmans, father and son:

I'm a grizzled old bird by now, having lived through wars and riots and having lost friends to everything from revolution to AIDS. But this story about David Grossman's son being killed in the Lebanon war brought tears to my eyes. Grossman, a writer with a conscience, is a noble man. As a father with a son, I cannot imagine or understand, only share the horror.
