Mission Really Accomplished: Time for the Speech

Technorati Tags: , ,

Gen. J.C. Christian pens a letter to The Lord's Chosen on the occasion of Saddam Hussein's execution:

George W. Bush
The Lord's Chosen

Your Majesty,

There is only one course left for you to take now that Saddam bin Laden is finally dead. You must give a speech in prime time detailing your long battle against this man. Your father should be made to kneel down beside you as you address the nation, so that once and for all, the world will know that you are a better man and a greater leader than him. Saddam's dead, naked body should be draped over the podium as you speak, and once you've finished, you should have your way with it to demonstrate that you've achieved the only thing you ever really wanted to accomplish in Iraq, the total domination of the man your father couldn't control, not with weapons sales or war. Then, you should bring our troops home.

Heterosexually yours,

Gen. JC Christian, patriot

Happy New Year to you, too, Joan.

Do you mean the post from Jesus' General that I quoted? Jesus' General is a satirical anti-Bush blog. All of his posts are formatted that way, as letters from "J.C. Christian" to whatever conservative or right-wing figure he's taking down.

In the one I quoted, he's obviously referring to (1) Bush's self-image as having been chosen by God to lead the nation; and (2) Bush's well-known obsession with proving to his father that he can do a better job on Iraq than his father did (supposedly).

The joke is that Saddam's execution was Bush's real mission in Iraq -- to show he could dominate him.

I don't know if this helps at all. I feel like I'm explaining the obvious, but maybe I'm missing something.

Hey Kathy!

I didn't know that Bush thought God chose him to be president, I figured he thanked the electorial college and USSC for that. However, he is free to think whatever he wants. I guess I am getting pretty confused over all this controversary over Saddam Hussein.

I know that both Britian and the USA participated in Hussein's murderous regime, but that does not excuse Hussein any. Political violence is very frightening to me. I can't stand it when some crack pot decides to knock off a couple million people who piss him off. Nothing can excuse that. Bush could offer me limitless riches on the condition that I murder some group of people (or even one person) and I wouldn't do it. And I am a VERY materialistic person. I am pretty embarrassed to tell you what I am willing to do for a meter of quilting fabric. So what was Hussein's excuse?

I am not thrilled by the death penalty, I would just lock him up in a lonely cell in some basement dungeon and make sure he never sees the light of day again. On the other hand the mere fact of his being alive may be a threat to many of the targeted populations he treated so abominably. Maybe they need to know he can never become a threat again and they need him dead. I can understand that.

In the end it doesn't really matter what day they killed him on. It doesn't matter if some news networks aired his execution, as the BBC did. Either way Iraq is a very fractured society and I don't think they can be pulled back from the abyss. I feel very sorry for Iraqis, they have a very rough road ahead of them. I am also sorry that so much was done TO the Iraqis rather than allowing them to determine their own path. But nonetheless the death of Saddam Hussein has not made the world a worse place.
