Today, 26 Dec is known as Boxing Day in most United Kingdom Commonwealth of Nations countries, including, of course, our neighbor to the north, Canada. According to Wikipedia Boxing Day's origins are as follows:
Boxing Day is a traditional celebration, dating back to the Medieval Ages, and consisted of the practice of giving out gifts to employees, the poor, or to people in a lower social class. The name has numerous folk etymologies; the Oxford English Dictionary attributes it to the Christmas box; the verb box meaning: "To give a Christmas-box (colloq.); whence boxing-day."
I do not know the appropriate salutation for Boxing Day, but I wish it to you on this Boxing Day.
