Interesting article in the New York Times today about a reverse migration trend among Irish people living in New York City and environs. Many of them are moving back to Ireland in hopes of making better lives for themselves. Some are illegal immigrants who are finding that the heightened security climate here is making economic survival more and more difficult, since without a Social Security number now it is much harder to drive a car or find a job. But others are people who have been U.S. citizens for years, but they are working impossible hours just to pay for rent and health insurance.
One well-connected member of the Irish community in New York City calls it "...the complete reversal of the American dream....".
