Israelis and Palestinians: The Road to Peace

There is a very moving and important piece in Salon by Baruch Kimmerling about the way (really the only way) to "get beyond the pain" and achieve peace in a post-Arafat Middle East. And that is to simply stop the competition for whose tragedy is the greatest, or whose tragedy is the real one; acknowledge that the history of the Palestinians and of Israelis is a story of two tragedies, both real and both essential to acknowledge. For peace to come, each side has to listen to and acknowledge the truth and reality of the other side's catastrophe.
