U.S. Death Toll in Iraq Surpasses Number of 9/11 Victims

Six more Americans died in Iraq today. The U.S. death toll in Iraq is now at least 2,978 -- which is five more than the number of people who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Charles Johnson is livid, of course:
The Associated Press's obsession with "significant" numbers and "grim milestones" produces one of their most vile articles ever: U.S. deaths in Iraq exceed 9-11 count.
They've obviously been watching and waiting for this magic number, to file a report like this -- an empty-headed, amoral attempt to equate things that are not equivalent, serving a sick, anti-American left-wing agenda. Disgusting and ghoulish beyond belief.
His comments section is even more amazing.
One reader is sane enough to point out that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 -- which makes it particularly vile -- to use Johnson's word -- that more U.S. soldiers have died there in the name of 9/11 than the number of people who actually died on 9/11.
